The prevention of Internet risks and threats to the lives of children and adolescents was discussed in Kazan

(KZN.RU, April 17). The joint meeting of the Security Council of the RT, the antiterrorist commission in the RT, and the Coordination Meeting on Ensuring Law and Order in the RT was held in the Kazan Kremlin. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan, held the meeting.

Alexei Pesoshin, the Prime Minister of the RT, Farid Mukhametshin, the chairman of the State Council of the RT, Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Councilor of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Airat Shafigullin, the secretary of the Security Council of the RT, representatives of ministries and departments, heads of municipal districts of the republic, and others participated in the event.

The agenda contained 2 questions: “On the adoption of additional measures in the field of prevention of Internet risks and the threat to life and health of children and adolescents”, “On the implementation in the Republic of Tatarstan of the Comprehensive Plan to Counter the Ideology of Terrorism in the Russian Federation for 2013-2018”.

Opening the meeting, R. Minnikhanov said that the unfavorable situation has recently been observed in connection with the spread of dangerous information on the Internet that adversely affects the security of citizens, especially children. He marked that it was a purposeful inducement of minors to commit unlawful and socially dangerous acts, including suicide.

“Despite the steady tendency of reducing suicides among children in the republic, the number of attempts to commit suicide remains high. In the Republic, cases of bringing children to suicide through social networks and the Internet were not fixed, but in the country, such facts appear with frightening frequency. This problem is widely covered in the media”, said the President of the RT.

It was stated that the problem is not simple and requires an integrated approach that should include work with children and parents, aimed at explaining the dangers that trap children in the information space and preventing suicidal behavior. Also, it is the strengthening of law enforcement agencies to conduct operational search activities in order to identify persons, involved in the promotion of suicidal behavior and the adoption of the necessary measures of influence. And it is the increasing the speed of detection and blocking of sites, on which prohibited information is placed.

“Ensuring the safety of children is a priority for us. This requires the implementation of a whole range of measures”, the Tatarstan Government Portal cites the words of R. Minnikhanov.
