Ilsur Metshin: “40% of Kazan citizens, involved in sports and physical education, is not the limit”
(KZN.RU, February 6, Alsu Safina). The capital of Tatarstan is the Russian leader in the number of fulfilled GTO standards: 12 thousand 758 people. 10 thousand 916 people completed the GTO standards in Moscow, Svetlana Vostrikova, the chairman of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sport, has led comparison at today's Business Monday.
4 centers and 37 testing sites are operating in Kazan, and a single call center for applications from the general public is created at the Central Stadium. Svetlana Vostrikova reported that the Sports Committee held 236 sports events last year, this year 240 are planned. In 2016, 190 thousand 393 people took part in the city's calendar events on 54 kinds of sports.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, said that all these activities were not for show. “We confirm the status of Russian sports capital in quantity and in quality of sporting activities. Our first place in Russia on GTO is the official statistics”, said the Mayor.
According to S. Vostrikova, the number of Kazan citizens, systematically engaged in sports and physical activity, increased from 39.65% in 2015 to 40.1% in 2016. “Our goal is to reach the numbers of 40.3% by 2020”, she said.
“Of course, it is difficult to grow on the background of the achieved results, and 40% of the population, regularly involved in sports, is a good number on the background of Russia, but it is not the limit. That is why we are the sports capital. I recommend reviewing goals”, said the Mayor about voiced plans. “We always have to put the inflated bar to reach it in the hard work. But the numbers must not be faked”, said I. Metshin. “We viewed this question as a separate item of the Strategy-2030. I ask to adjust plans on the basis of the tasks that we set ourselves”.
