infection observed in Kazan over the past three years. Ilnur Halfiev, the head
of Kazan Health Department of the Ministry of Health, told this today at the
Business Monday.
According
to I. Halfiev, Kazan medical-prophylactic institutions work in close
cooperation with the Republican AIDS Center. “In the case of a patient
suspected of being infected with HIV, he is sent to the national center for
diagnosis”, noted the speaker.
7965 cases
of HIV infection were registered in Kazan over 30 years, starting in 1986, or
404.1 per 100 thousand of population, which is higher than the national average
index by 22.6%. The city ranks third after Almetyevsk and Naberezhnye Chelny on
the prevalence of HIV infection in the Republic of Tatarstan. According to the
Republican AIDS Center, 4867 persons are registered in Kazan on November 1,
2016. 1-2 HIV cases are being detected in the city daily.
According
to I. Halfiev, sexual transmission, which amounted to 62.6% in 2016, remains
dominant in Kazan, as well as in the whole of the Republic of Tatarstan for the
past 10 years. 34% of patients were infected by drug use.
Persons of
working age prevail in the age structure: 20-29 years – 46.9%, and 30-39 -
31.8% of the number of registered. In addition, 69 children and 371 teenagers
aged 15-19 years (7.6%) were registered.
The main
contingent of HIV-infected people in social status is working citizens. They
constitute 46.5% of registered persons. The share of non-working accounts for
42%, students and pupils - 5.5%.
In
conclusion of the report, I. Halfiev reminded the relevance of preventive
measures against infection. So, everyone could pass a rapid test and learn the
result with certainty of 99% in 15 minutes in the All-Russian campaign on HIV
testing, which took place in Kazan in the shopping center “Suvar Plaza” since
18 to 30 of October. 1266 Kazan citizens were tested for HIV during the
campaign, 17 people were detected with a positive result.
The Mayor
of Kazan noted with regret that in recent years the problems of HIV is paid
less and less attention. On the eve of International AIDS Day, he hoped to
improve the situation, both in Kazan and across Russia.
