I. Metshin about voting for symbols for the banknotes: “It says how many friends Kazan has”

Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan thanked all those, who supported the capital of Tatarstan in the voting for the symbols for the new banknotes in denomination of 200 and 2000 rubles. Kazan won 537 thousand 843 votes in the final vote, which was held live on the TV channel “Russia-1”, and took third place, behind Sevastopol and the Far East.

Ilsur Metshin congratulated the winners. “We had a great desire to win”, said the Mayor at the today's Business Monday. “I want to thank everyone who took part in the vote”. He emphasized that the choice in favor of Kazan did not come only from residents of the city and Tatarstan. “It is doubly pleasing that a large number of votes were received from outside the republic, from those who loved Kazan and vote for her, who comes to us for the weekend and during the holidays, on vacation with children, various cultural and sports events. It is worth much, we appreciate that”, said Ilsur Metshin.

“Thank you all very much. This shows once again how many friends Kazan has. We hope that our victory is yet to come”, he added.

The popular vote was opened on the initiative of the Bank of Russia from June 28 on the website твоя-россия.рф, on the basis of this vote the expanded list of cities and territories and their symbols pretend to be represented on the new banknotes in denomination of 200 and 2000 rubles was formed. Such a choice of picture on the banknote was produced for the first time in the history of our country. More than a thousand cities and settlements of Russia signed up for the contest. The final stage of voting live on the TV channel “Russia-1” took place on October 7. 10 applicants reached the finals: Vladimir, Volgograd, the Far East, Irkutsk, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Petrozavodsk, Sevastopol, Sergiev Posad and Sochi.
