September 26, Alsu Safina). Elderly residents of the capital of Tatarstan must
feel that Kazan is a good city first, sure Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor. He
expressed that opinion at today's Business Monday during the discussion of the
older people decade, which will start on October 1.
“Elderly
people are the foundation of our society, the people who pass the tradition to
us; they are the most respected and revered citizens of our dear Kazan”, said
Ilsur Metshin. According to him, the event, which will be held in the capital
of Tatarstan within a decade older people, is important and necessary. “We
would like the decade grew into everyday respectful and caring attitude to the
elderly”, said the Mayor.
Damir
Fattakhov, the first deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee, said that
the United Nations, which established the International Day of Older Persons,
offering a holiday theme every time and this year encourages against
discrimination of the elderly.

Fattakhov also cited the following data: for July 12 there are 94 641 thousand
residents of Kazan, who receive a retirement pension - almost a quarter of the
city's population. “130 people in the capital crossed the 90-year milestone.
The eldest resident of the city turned 103 years old in January 2016”, said the
first deputy head of the Executive Committee. “1743 Kazan residents are
registered in the center of the social service at home”.
Every year
in the capital of Tatarstan held a decade older people, in which charitable
social action take place. The charity gala dinners, in which nearly 2,500
people will take part, will be held during October. Courses of computer
literacy in the framework of the project “Internet longevity” for the Third Age
University will be organized for elderly citizens.
In
addition, sports competitions in swimming, football, billiards will be held.
All terms and conditions for engagement of older persons in sports throughout
the year are set in Kazan. They have free access to facilities of the
Universiade on Sundays from 8.00 to 14.00 in the program “My Kazan”. More than
17 thousand people of retirement age visited them from the beginning of 2016,
said Dmitry Fattakhov.
Cultural
events, concerts, exhibitions, tea party will be organized in all parts of the
city. Kazan pensioners will be free to visit the municipal museums of the
1000th anniversary of Kazan, Baki Urmanche and Konstantin Vasilyev, as well as
Kazan Zoo on October 1. Charity screenings take place in the major theaters of
the city, including “Cinema”, “Kinomax”, “Mir” and others. Tickets will be
available at district administrations, veterans' councils, and community
associations.
Honoring of
wedding anniversaries of couples, which celebrated the “golden” and “diamond”
wedding, will be traditionally held in the Family Center “Kazan”.
“The decade
is an opportunity for all of us to show respect and care for the older
generation, to set an example for children”, said the deputy head of the Kazan
Executive Committee.
