(KZN.RU,
September 15, Anton Nozdrin). Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, visited the
Youth Sports School on water and rowing. The Mayor got acquainted with the work
of institutions and talked with Artem Kosov, the graduate of the School,
participant of the Summer Olympic Games in 2016 in the Russian team.
Ivan
Kovalkov, the director of the School, told the Mayor that the institution has
been operating since 2003 and is currently based on the Center of rowing sports
- the object of the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and
Tourism. I. Kovalkov reported that 448 people involved in the School in two
departments, of which 185 athletes are training in rowing, and 263 students –
in canoe rowing. Coaches have prepared 1 master of sports of international
class, 6 masters of sports of Russia, and 52 candidates for master of sports
during the school work.
I. Metshin
met with Artem Kosov, one of the best graduates of the School. He is the winner
of the World Cup in rowing, champion of Russia. A. Kosov also participated in
the Summer Olympics in 2016 in the Russian team. The athlete told the head of
the city about the features of his sport, and also spoke about the preparations
for the Olympics. A. Kosov noted that the conditions of the competition and the
organization of starts in Kazan are better than they were in Brazil.
The Mayor
of Kazan also got acquainted with the infrastructure of the school and examined
the boats and training halls. Coaches in a conversation with the head of the
city noted that the Kazan Center of rowing sports is one of the best in Russia.
The length of the shoreline of the lake Sredny Kaban, where classes are held,
is 2200 meters. This is optimal in view of the fact that the distance of 2 km
is required for rowing. According to the athletes, trainings are often carried
out on the river in other cities of the country, where crosswind or campers on
boats interfere with training. A. Kosov noted that one of the designers of the
rowing channel is a former rower, and this is the reason why the track is very
convenient for athletes. The Center of rowing sports was built in anticipation
of the Universiade-2013. The World Championship among students in Canoe Sprint
and Competitions in rowing and canoeing and swimming in open water within the
World University Summer Games 2013 were held at the facility.
I. Metshin
talked with athletes and wished them successful performances and new victories.
