(KZN.RU, 16 August, Zilya Gayfi). The titles of
Honorary Citizen of Kazan were awarded to Marat Rakhimov, the general director
of OAO "Kazmetrostroy", and Indus Tagirov, the full member of the
Academy of Sciences. The decision was taken at the IX session of the Kazan City
Duma.
The title of Honorary Citizen of Kazan is awarded to
the famous residents of the city for services to the capital of Tatarstan.
Marat Rakhimov, the general director of OAO "Kazmetrostroy", was
distinguished for his contribution to development of transport infrastructure
and the construction industry of the city, said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of
Kazan. “Marat Rakhimov was born in Kazakhstan. He served in the Soviet armed
forces in the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway. He worked his way from
the master to the head of the underground station. He was invited to Kazan in
March 1997. The overarching goal was set before Marat Rakhimov - to build the
Kazan underground. Kazan became his hometown since then. We have seen how the
city has changed, 10 subway stations were built. Marat Rakhimov made a
professional contribution to the development of Moscow; his work is marked with
titles of Honored builder of Tatarstan and the Russian Federation”, said I.
Metshin.
Also, the title of Honorary Citizen of Kazan was
awarded to Indus Tagirov, the full member of the Academy of Sciences of the RT.
“The name of Indus Tagirov is well-known in the republic and the country as an
outstanding scientist and public figure. Indus Tagirov played a significant
role in the 90-ies socio-political processes in Tatarstan, and in the formation
of the republic's sovereignty. He was recognized as one of the ideologists of
the Tatar national movement, participated in the preparation of the draft
Declaration on the state sovereignty and the development of basic provisions of
the Constitution, was a member of the delegation of the RT on the preparation
of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tatarstan on
the delimitation of powers. Indus Tagirov was a graduate of the KFU. He
retained the loyalty to University, and trained a lot of scientists. His
achievements marked with titles of Honored Worker of Science of Tatarstan and
the Russian Federation”, said I. Metshin.
