He noted that 174 individuals will settle on a new site of the zoo: representatives of 28 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. “We picked the animals, which can coexist in the same area, have a similar type of food and living conditions, for the creation of a mixed composition”, said the director of the Kazan zoological and botanical garden. He drew attention to the fact that some species can be obtained after the recommendation of the program curator of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums on keeping and breeding.

The family of the Mayor, who will acquire seven zebras, and Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan, will be the first friends of the zoo.

Zoos of Nizhny Novgorod and Sao Paulo will present Kazan several animals, added Fanis Nurmukhametov. “Construction of the new part of the zoo was made possible thanks to the President of Tatarstan. Zoological and botanical garden will become a new center of attraction, especially for Kazan citizens", assured the Mayor. “The conditions in the new zoo are as close to nature as possible. “We are waiting for the completion of the zoo. It will take time for the veterinary quarantine of export country and ours, but not as much as for the purchase of the animals. This is an ambitious project, and we have a unique chance to take part in it”, said Ilsur Metshin.

Construction works at the new site started in the zoo last year. After the completion of work on the exhibition “Zambezi River”, the reconstruction of the old part of the zoological and botanical garden will begin. There will be three complete expositions of animals from different regions of Russia. It is also planned to attach to the zoological and botanical garden the territory, located behind the botanical duct area and which is ​​6.4 hectares. Accommodation of the aviary “Amazon” for animals from South America is possible on this site.
