The Memorial Board to Asgat Galimzyanov will be installed in the square “Philanthropist”

(KZN.RU, August 3 Zilya Gayfi). The work on the improvement of the new square “Philanthropist” in memory of honorary citizen of the city Asgat Galimzyanov continues in Kazan. Flowers and bushes will soon blossom in the square at the Kazan Kremlin; there will be pedestrian walkways and benches, and a memorial wall. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, inspected the landscaping of the square today. He noted that the memory of Asgat Galimzyanov is very important for the citizens, therefore, he urged the builders to work efficiently. 

The square “Philanthropist” will appear in a picturesque location near the Millennium Square, where the monument Asgat Galimzyanova is located. The monument was removed for the duration of the work, but it will return to its place and will be the centerpiece of the square after the accomplishment of landscaping. Sidewalks, benches and urns, the memorial wall with the engraved quote, dedicated to philanthropist, are provided by the project on an area of 4100 square meters. 

Green areas will surround the square, which paved with light and dark granite stones. It is planned to lay the lawn in the territory as part of the landscaping, and to plant several species of flowers and shrubs: cineraria maritima, yellow and red marigolds, white dogwood, and miniature Philadelphus Coronarius. The setting of the granite border stones, 29 park lamps 70 cm in height and repair of existing outdoor lighting poles are planned also. 102 LED decorative lamps and 9 fixtures for the illumination of a memorial board and the Philanthropist monument will be installed in the cover of the granite paving stones. 

According to the designers, the planning decision does not violate the existing pedestrian links: residents and guests of the city, passing by, will be able to relax in the square. The contractor is preparing the base area for concreting, and then the builders will start the building of paths and curbs. The final stage will be the installation of granite and landscaping elements. Preliminary date of finishing of the square is September 20-25, because the contractor is bound to the granite supply. The work is carried out on sponsors’ funds. 

Ilsur Metshin noted that the improvement of the square named after Asgat Galimzyanov is an important event for the citizens. “My wish is to complete the work in the construction season, but without haste, so that the quality will not be affected. The object is very important, it is a place near the Kremlin, which is in the sight of residents and tourists”, said the Mayor. 

The decision to memorialize Asgat Galimzyanov, the known philanthropist and honorary citizen of the city, was made by deputies of Kazan City Duma during the IV session in the City Hall. Residents contacted the Internet reception of the Mayor with initiative to commemorate Asgat Galimzyanov, who died January 3, 2016. Ilsur Metshin supported citizens’ initiative and instructed to consider options for commemorating Asgat Galimzyanov. As a result, it was decided to name the square after him on the Millennium Square at the site of the monument location. 

The Philanthropist Monument was established on August 30, 2008 under the walls of the Kazan Kremlin. Asgat Galimzyanov was known as one of the most active philanthropists of the city. Working as a carter at the Kazan Kolhozny market, he raise cattle in his shed and gave more than 80 buses and cars to orphanages. The monument is made by sculptor Asiya Minullina on the initiative and at the expense of the family of the first Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev. 

Damir Fattakhov, the first deputy head of the Executive Committee, Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head of the Executive Committee and the chairman of the Committee of Improvements, Andrei Lobov, the head of the administration of Vakhitovsky and Privolzhskiy districts, Tatiana Prokofieva, the chief architect of the city, representatives of designs and contractor organizations took part in the work meeting.
