(KZN.RU, May13th, by Renat Shirmanov). In the year of the 80th anniversary of the outstanding composer Sofia Gubaidullina, the Center of Modern Music, which bears her name, will be completely renovated in Kazan. The Mayor of Kazan Il’sur Metshin declared it today during his working visit to the Center.
The Sofia Gubaidullina Center was created in Kazan in 2002. It is located at
29 Thälmann Street, where the composer lived. The famous resident’s memorial museum room is a part of the Center.
It should be noted that this is the only center of this kind in Tatarstan. Among its goals is the establishment of contacts with leading world centers of modern music, the organization of concerts and master classes, the study of modern art trends and arranging meetings with outstanding figures of modern music. An ensemble of new music will be organized under the Center’s auspices.
Il’sur Metshin ordered that the building be renovated by October. The facade, the interior and the heating system will have to be repaired and additional heating will have to be installed.
Besides, it is necessary to draw up a three-year program of development of the Center of Modern Music, which in the future should include a museum, a library and a music studio.
Sofia Gubadulina is one of the most important and profound composers of the second half of the 20th century. Along with Alfred Schnittke and Edison Denisov, Gubaidulina is one of the so-called “Troika" (Trinity) of Moscow avant-garde composers.
