With student anthem «Gaudeamus» new academic year in the Kazan University of the Third Age began - this is the ninth time educational courses are opening their doors to pensioners, young at heart and who are not willing to put the books on the shelf. Mayor of the capital of RT Ilsur Metshin congratulated students of the University with the upcoming new academic year and admired the desire for self-improvement in the older generation.

The ceremony of celebrating the beginning of new academic year was held in the concert hall of the Tukay Tatar State Philharmonic, which brought together the most "experienced students" of Kazan.

Ilsur Metshin recalled that such universities that are completely free for older generation to learn something new, to keep pace with the rapid changes of life, are opened not in all regions. In Kazan, since 2007, when the first admission of students was, 35 thousand pensioners had become the students of the university, of whom more than 15 thousand are residents of the capital of Tatarstan.

In honor of the holiday State Orchestra of Folk Instruments of the Republic of Tatarstan under the leadership of People's Artist of Russia, Professor Anatoly Shutikov performed for to the students. Besides the music, a "sport" gift was made for the students. "We are fighting for the right to be the most athletic city. University of the Third Age is a program of education and communication, established by the Union of Pensioners of Tatarstan, Department of Pension Fund of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan and the Institute of Continuing Education of Kazan State University in March 2007. This project immediately aroused great interest among pensioners and veterans.

Today, as part of the University of the Third Age 11 free educational programs in areas such as economics and law, philosophy, psychology, design and arrangement of the garden, the history of Kazan, the history of religions, Tatar and German, self-help, dance therapy, music art work. In addition, students can attend public lectures on themes "History of Kazan", "History of World Culture", "Prevention of cardiovascular disease".
