Kazan got round Paris in the race for the right to host "WorldSkills Competition-2019"

(Kazan City KZN.RU, August 11, Adelia Galieva). Kazan has won the right to host the World Cup of Professional Excellence «WorldSkills Competition-2019". Presentation of the final application of the capital of Tatarstan was held today in Sao Paulo - in the race to become the hostess of the championship Kazan bypassed Paris and Charleroi. The Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was a part of the Tatarstan delegation at the General Assembly «WorldSkills International» in Brazil.

The meeting of the General Assembly «WorldSkills International» was part of XLIII World Championship of working professions standards. Three cities claimed to the right of hosting the championship in 2019: Kazan, Paris and the Belgian Charleroi. Secret ballot was held by the results of consideration of the nomination presentations with the participation of one delegate from each country - a full member of WSI.

Despite the fact that representatives of the Russian delegation were the last, they were able to get round the rivals and impress the judges with potential of Tatarstan capital and its readiness to carry out the best in the history professional competition «WorldSkills»: in the first round 28 delegates gave their voices for Kazan, Paris received 24 voices and Charleroi - 5. By the terms the winner has to receive at least 29 votes, so the second round of voting were held, the capital of Tatarstan confidently bypassed the French capital. According to the delegation, Kazan won by a professional approach to preparation and vivid performances of Rustam Minnikhanov, Ilsur Metshin and Olga Golodets, who were able to convey the strengths of the capital of Tatarstan.

It is hard to overestimate the significance of this victory: since 60-year history of the movement «WorldSkills International» world championship for professional skills have never been held in Russia. Our city has joined the global movement «WorldSkills» just three years ago, and during that time the capital of Tatarstan managed to accumulate experience, professional skill competitions were held at various levels: the second and third national competition «WorldSkills» were held in Kazan, when all the members of the Russian team were united for the preparation for the «WorldSkills» at the international level.

"We have accumulated vast experience in the organization of the reception of big world events: the Universiade 2013, the FINA World Cup 2015. During the preparation for the Universiade, we have improved the infrastructure of the city, a large number of modern sports facilities were built, and transport structure of the city has been completely updated. Currently, we are preparing for a serious world-class event - the FIFA championship. We will do everything to carry out these important competitions at the highest level. And «WorldSkills» won’t be an exception! So I'm sure that Kazan is ready to receive international championship «WorldSkills» at 100%! It will be a new field for the development and co-operation with foreign partners for us "- Ilsur Metshin said, estimating the value of the championship for the capital of Tatarstan. We also add that the championship is designed to contribute improving the quality of workers and engineers, promotion of working professions and dissemination of international professional standards across the country.

WorldSkills International (WSI) is an international movement, the purpose of which is to promote workers' jobs, raise of the status and standards of professional training and qualifications around the world. It is held since 1947 in all major countries - participants of WSI every 2 years. Championship of this year brought together representatives of over 60 countries, 32 masters will present the Russian team. They will compete in 30 of the 50 competences, including joinery and carpentry, graphic design, welding technology, mobile robotics, and others.
