(KZN.RU, September 13). The branches of the Emergency Control Ministry (EMERCOM) of Russia will be reequipped with the modern fire engineering. The Government of the Russian Federation is going to allocate 54 billion rubles for three years, from 2010 to 2013. Sergei Shoigu, the Head of the EMERCOM told about it at the meeting of the Scientific and Technical Convocation of Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations that was held last Friday in Kazan.
The subjectof the meeting was the “Clarification of the concept of the program to reequip of the Federal Fire Fighting Service of Russian EMERCOM with the modern technology and equipment and basic approaches to its implementation".
Sergei Shoigunoted that available equipment of Russian EMERCOM was ineffective in the fighting against the firestorms, with which rescuers have faced this summer.
The Minister of the EMERCOM highlighted the experience of Tatarstan in the detection and elimination of fires with the help of involvement of small and ultra light aircrafts.
Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of Tatarstan noted that the number of emergencies in the republic has been steadily declining. "However the drought which literally fell on our fields destroyed most of the crop, caused an enormous economic damage. High temperatures affected the condition of forests and grass cover", the President said.
"Despite these poor weather conditions the bodies of all branches of Tatarstan government, municipalities and all interested organizations have done everything possible to fight fires; as a result we managed to keep the situation under control. There was no any large forest fire”, Rustam Minnikhanov said, “a full range of preventive measures were carried out. Flame bases were promptly identified and eliminated in the forests and peat bogs that exist a lot in the republic. Advanced technologies to fight against peat fires were applied, notably using our recourses".
Inconclusion of the meeting the executive personnel and the officials of the Unified State System of Emergency Situation Prevention and Elimination territorial subsystem who participated in activities aimed at prevention and elimination of natural fires on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan were awarded the EMERCOM Russia.
Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan was awarded the Excellence in Emergency Recovery medal. Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan received the Excellence in Emergency Recovery medal. And Rustam Nigmatullin, the First Deputy Head of the Executive Committee was awarded the same medal was awarded and Rustam Nigmatullin.
