(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 16, by Adel Galiyev) A Tatar national holiday, Sabantuy, will be held in Kazan on June 21. Deputy head of the Kazan Executive Committee on Social Affairs Leila Fazleyeva spoke about the holiday program.
Leila Fazleeva remarked that Sabantuy was sweeping the globe – it will be marked in 24 countries. In Kazan, the festival will take place at three venues: a birch grove in the Mirny residential area, the forest at Lake Lebyazhye and a birch grove in the Derbyshki residential area.
An extensive entertainment program has been prepared for residents and visitors alike. Thus, at Mirny's main square, a dramatized prologue with colorful sketches about Tatar village life and traditions of multiethnic Tatarstan will be presented, followed by a concert featuring Tatar variety performers and stars of stage. In addition, 11 municipal districts will put up rural farmsteads, and 250 of the best batyrs (heroes) of Kazan and Tatarstan will compete in the ethnic wrestling contest "Tatarcha Koresh."
In the Lebyazhye Lake forest, a historical pageant, "Tales of Bulgar", will be presented. Also,
an exhibition and sale of handicrafts and a folk concert "Volga Rainbow" will be held. Merrymakers will be able to visit the "Salavat Kupere" concert ground and the playground featuring "Children's Maidan."
A folk musical based on Mustai Karim's comedy "A Girl's Abduction" will be presented in Derbyshki along with the exhibition "Museum in a Suitcase", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Europe. The folk choir "Volzhanka" and a Navy ensemble will perform specifically for veterans. KVN summer panel game participants will compete at the "Koyashly KiViN" ground, and horse races will be held at the Kazan Hippodrome.
