(Kazan, KZN.RU, May 28, by Albert Safiullin). Today, Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin inspected the site where work on improving the area around the building at 9 Zhurnalistov Street has started. In response to numerous requests from local residents, construction of a multipurpose sports ground was launched here. It will be one of 12 to be commissioned in Kazan this year.
Locals have long been asking to improve the vacant lot between11 Zhurnalistov Street and 16 Ac. Kirpichnikov Street, and this year it was decided to thoroughly improve the territory. First of all, in keeping with the republican program, a multipurpose sports ground will be laid out here. Secondly, the driveways around the site and the surrounding buildings will be renovated. And thirdly, a children's playground will be built here at the expense of the “Service-Garant” company.
According to the draft, the Zhurnalistov St. sports ground will be divided into several areas and will include rubber surface volleyball and basketball courts and an all-weather soccer field with artificial turf. Besides, outdoor exercisers, horizontal and parallel bars will be installed here.
"I think the work will be completed by the Day of the Republic and the City. But I ask you to be active not only in writing letters, but also in landscaping, tree planting and watering the flowers. And, most importantly, we must preserve what is being built. Your children and grandchildren will play here, so much depends on how you raise them," stressed Ilsur Metshin.
At the end of the tour, Ilsur Metshin asked the head of the Committee of Physical Culture and Sports Ilgiz Fakhriev how the eight sports grounds built last year are being used. It will be recalled that they were financed from the funds that Kazan received for active participation in the construction of the Universiade venues. According to Ilgiz Fakhriev, they are operational. Artificial turf remains to be laid on three soccer fields, but the volleyball and basketball courts are already being used. This year, another 12 large sports grounds will be built.
