(KZN.RU, March 24, Zilya Gafiyatullina) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin recommended that Crimean Tatar representatives be invited to the opening ceremony of the "Kazan: the Culture Capital of the Turkic world" year at today's Business Monday meeting.
The head of the city said that Kazan became the third city in the world after Astana and Eskisehir which was honored to be the culture capital of the Turkic speaking world. According to Ilsur Metshin, the upcoming activities organically fit into the Year of Culture in Tatarstan, which officially opens tomorrow. As for the opening ceremony of "Kazan: the Culture Capital of the Turkic World", it is scheduled for April 26, the great Tatar poet G. Tukai's birthday.
"We are going to present the entire palette of the Turkic world at the opening ceremony. Special attention should be paid to the Crimean Tatars to make them feel at home in Tatarstan. In general, the status of the culture capital of the Turkic speaking world should be used to strengthen ties and friendly relations among nations," said Ilsur Metshin, recommending that invitations be sent to the Crimea.
Recall that the decision to annually select the culture capital of the Turkic speaking world was taken at the 10th Summit of the Council of Turkic Speaking States in Istanbul in 2010. A solemn ceremony of transfer of the flag of the culture capital of the Turkic world to Kazan was held in the Turkish city of Eskisehir last week.
