(KZN.RU, January 25, by Renat Shirmanov) The Russian leg of the 2013 World Summer Student Games torch relay kicked off from Vladivostok's Russky Island. The Games will be held in the capital of Tatarstan, Kazan, in July 2013. It will take five months for the Universiade flame to cross the country and visit more than 30 cities.
The ceremony to mark the start of the relay was attended by First Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Games Organizing Committee Igor Shuvalov; President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov; Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin; Governor of the Primorsky Territory Vladimir Miklushevsky and FISU First Vice-President, President of the Russian Student Sports Union Oleg Matytsin.
The length of the 2013 Universiade Torch Relay in Vladivostok was 15.5 km; it ended at the bridge across the Golden Horn bay. Fifty torchbearers ran the distance; among them were tennis player Dinara Safina, TV presenter Irina Shadrina, foil fencer Camilla Gafurzyanova and students of the Far Eastern Federal University.
Tatiana Zubareva, a 2013 University Games volunteer and FEFU student, was the last runner in the Vladivostok relay. It is she who will light the Universiade flame cauldron in the city.
The Universiade flame progress was followed in the capital of the 2013 Universiade. For this purpose, a Kazan-Vladivostok space bridge was arranged. The capital of Tatarstan residents linked up from the construction site of one of the largest Games facilities – the football stadium with a capacity of 45,000 spectators.
