Last year, 5,300 tons of recyclable materials were sorted in Kazan

Last year, the amount of
municipal solid waste removed from the city of Kazan increased by 558 thousand
cubic meters (8% increase compared to 2021) and reached almost 7.4 million
cubic meters. Food waste accounted for 30% of this amount. This was reported at
the Business Monday meeting by Yevgeny Chekashov, Director of the Regional Operator
Management company «PZhKh».
«In fact, we are on different
sides Management Company «PZhKH», but we have a common goal – to make Kazan a clean and well-maintained city», – the Mayor said.
Municipal waste is collected
from 10,000 garbage container sites in the city. 30,000 containers were
equipped, including 2,000 special yellow bins for sorting waste. 400 employees
and 130 special vehicles operate in two shifts each day.
«One of the main challenges we face is the lack of
container sites in settlements. This issue is hard to solve, not because there
isn't enough land, but because people do not agree to provide garbage container
sites near their homes. According to the regulations, we need to find a
location within walking distance from homes. Despite these challenges, we are
working hard to improve the situation. Last year, we improved 26 sites, while
in 2023 and 2024 – 99. We will continue to work actively this year», – the Mayor noted.
The garbage is moved to landfill. To reduce the load, 250-300
tons of waste sort daily. This process allows us to select 5.3 tons of
recyclable materials last year, which we transfer to companies for reuse.
The second Vostochny waste management cell has been
opened in Kazan, becoming the final destination for municipal solid waste in
the city. The capacity sufficient to store waste is designed for 2.5 years. The
facility has also been equipped with an automated filtration and neutralization
system. For the first time, a bio-repellent solution has been used to deter
birds, and radiation monitoring frames have been installed at the entry point.
The facility is equipped with a passive degassing system, including the
installation of bio filters that achieve a degree of waste purification up to
80% – 98%.
«The second cell of the Vostochny landfill has been
equipped with high-quality equipment. There is still a lot of work to be done:
this project will be completed in the next three years. The Rias of Tatarstan
has decided to construct a waste recycling facility and an incineration plant»,
– the Mayor said.
Yevgeny Chekashov pointed out that waste from the
container sites is removed promptly, and there is no excessive accumulation of the
municipal solid waste. The daily completion rate is 98%, which is 6% higher
than last year.
