(KZN.RU, November 5, by Alisa Rozanova) By next summer, the first stage of a large-scale project to improve Kazan waterfronts is due to be completed. This was announced by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
According to chief architect Tatiana Prokofieva, the project based on integrated approach to development of the Kazanka river waterfronts involves merging the embankments from the Kirov Bridge to the Third Transport Causeway.
One of the most important sections facing the central part of the city stretches from the Lenin Causeway to the Millennium Bridge, where construction of key objects – multifunctional complexes and public facilities – is planned. The stretch from the Millennium Bridge to the Third Transport Causeway, where the “Ak Bars” martial arts palace is located and a Palace of Aquatic Sports and a football stadium seating 45 thousand are under construction, is planned as a sports park and an area with improved ponds, where natural features will be preserved or recreated. Currently, this project is being elaborated in conjunction with environmentalists.
"Places where bodies of water are close to green spaces are excellent oxygen generators and are highly beneficial to the environment. Fortunately, God has given us a lot of water, where all this can be implemented. Therefore, it is the waterfronts that should become the core of our natural and environmental framework,” concluded the mayor.
