Today, the
Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur
Metshin took part in the opening ceremony of the bridge on Nazarbayeva Street
after renovation. Initially, the facility was planned to be commissioned only
at the end of 2024, however around the clock work allowed to complete renovation
a year earlier.
Rustam
Minnikhanov and Ilsur Metshin talked to the workers who were involved in the
reconstruction of the bridge. As the Mayor of Kazan noted, the bridge on
Nazarbayeva Street is the major transport artery that connects the historical
part of the Old Tatar Settlement with the city center.
“Given the
importance of the bridge, the construction workers, at our request, shortened
the deadlines and managed to compete wroks in autumn 2023. The traffic in this
part of the city will improve significantly,”- Ilsur Metshin said.
During the
reconstruction, the load-bearing capacity of the bridge was increased from 15
to 25 tons per axle, the number of lanes increased from six to eight,
pedestrian zones were expanded, and bike paths appeared. Outdoor lighting was
connected to the bridge, construction cones, slopes and automatic irrigation
systems were equipped, barrier and pedestrian fencing were installed.
“The
pedestrian path is specially made on the edge of the bridge so that residents
and tourists have the opportunity to enjoy the view of Kaban Lake,”- Igor
Kulyazhev, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of Kazan, noted.
The bridge
will unload traffic at several streets at once: Tankovaya, Tatarstana and
Nazarbayeva.
The
construction length of the facility was 436.5 m. Landscaping was carried out
along the bridge, a lawn was sown and trees were planted, 60 LED lamps were
installed. The estimated speed on the bridge will be 70 km/h.
For
reference, the reconstruction of the facility began in 2019after an emergency
condition of the bridge was revealed. At first, restrictions were imposed on
the movement of heavy vehicles, and last year the pedestrian part was
dismantled. In the course of constant observations, a dangerous deformation of
the structure was recorded due to subsidence of the soil, and the bridge was
completely closed to traffic at the end of September 2022.
