May 6, Alina Berezhnaya). Over 1.5 thousand police officers and national guard
troops will provide public order and security in Kazan on the day of the
celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Great Victory. This number includes
700 policemen for the security of citizens during the “Immortal Regiment”.
Alexander Mishchikhin, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia
for Kazan, announced this today at the Business Monday.
Also, the
traffic police officers and public assistants will monitor traffic safety
during the action “Immortal Regiment”. The traffic will be blocked on the
entire route of the participants.

Mishchikhin said that on May 9, all the sites for the celebrations and the
territories adjacent to them will be examined 2 hours before the start of the
celebrations using technical means and involving service dogs, surrounded by
barrier fences. “Checkpoints equipped with metal detectors are provided for the
admission of residents and guests of the city. In addition, special engineering
structures and heavy vehicles will be installed to protect the sites of the
celebrations”, said the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for
Kazan.
Kazan
police have already switched to an enhanced mode of operation and are
conducting a set of preventive measures, said the head of the Moscow police
department. Thus, special attention is paid to objects of transport, especially
the subway. Every day officers with dogs inspect lobbies, platforms, pedestrian
crossings and electric trains for the detection of explosive devices. Patrols
bypass the territory every hour, underground pedestrian crossings, office
space, platforms and station lobbies.
Officers of
the patrol and inspection service of the police and traffic police are passing
near the monuments of military glory, monuments and burial places of soldiers
of the Great Patriotic War in order to prevent vandalism in Kazan. Municipal
employees and employees of private security organizations are also involved in
the protection of Victory Memorials.

Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, addressed the townspeople with a request to treat
all preventive measures with understanding. “This is a common measure aimed at
protecting public order and the safety of citizens and guests of the capital.
This is the case when it is better to be safe than sorry”, concluded the Mayor.
