I. Metshin: “Tourism is becoming a full branch of the urban economy”
(KZN.RU, February 26, Ksenia Shvetsova). Kazan is the fifth city in Russia, receiving more than 3 million people a year. The city has great opportunities for the development of inbound tourism, but this area requires constant work and improvement, said Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, at the meeting of the XXXII session of the Kazan City Duma in the City Hall.
In November last year, Kazan welcomed its anniversary guest for the first time, who became a 3-millionth tourist. Ilsur Metshin, the Kazan Mayor, reminded that 201 million people visited Kazan only in 2018, which is 2 times more than in 2013, the year of the Universiade.
The number of returning tourists is increasing. By the end of 2018, 35% of tourists have already visited Kazan. “Every day, we are working on the development of tourist infrastructure: tourist navigation, new tourist bus routes, participation in international tourist exhibitions. Today we can confidently say that tourism is becoming a full-fledged sector of the urban economy”, said the Mayor. According to the head of the city, such indicators were possible due to the appearance on the tourist map of the republic of Sviyazhsk and Bulgar, which linked Kazan with unique World Heritage sites. “For this, we must separately thank Mintimer Shaimiev and Rustam Minnikhanov. Finance and management decisions were invested in the reconstruction of these shrines along with the soul and love for the history of our country”, said I. Metshin.
“Kazan’s opportunities to attract tourists are very great. A large-scale program is being implemented in this area”, said Rustam Minnikhanov. “We have three main objects, interesting to tourists, but the main part of the guests come to the capital. We need to carefully look at what else needs to be done so that there will be even more tourists”.
It is planned that by 2020, Kazan will welcome its 5-millionth tourist, I. Metshin shared the plans. This result can be achieved only by developing the sphere of hospitality and event tourism. “We will continue to work on the development and expansion of tourist attraction points. Along with the Kremlin, the Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda, the Family Center “Kazan”, new tourist packages are being developed”, concluded the Mayor.
