On the New Year's Eve, more than 400 police officers will ensure the protection of public order and the safety of residents and guests of the Tatarstan capital. The Kazan garrison moved to an enhanced duty mode, reported Alexey Sokolov, the head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s office in Kazan, at the Business Monday.
The speaker paid special attention to ensuring security in places of a mass gathering of people. Thus, all objects are checked using technical equipment and specially trained dogs. An inspection with metal detectors is organized at checkpoints to reveal prohibited items. “City Christmas Trees from the opening until January 14 inclusive will be taken under round-the-clock protection by paired posts. From January 1 to January 14, from 4 pm to 10 pm, paired posts will be additionally placed near the central Christmas Tree”, said Alexey Sokolov. In total, over 400 police officers will be involved to ensure law and order on the New Year’s Eve night and more than 300 law enforcement officers on the night of January 6-7. It is also planned to involve employees and servicemen of the Rosgvardia, employees of private security organizations, members of the people's brigades, and other law enforcement units.
During the New Year holidays, additional traffic police posts will be organized, reinforcement of investigative and operational teams will be provided, and teams will be created to immediately respond to reports of possible terrorist attacks.
Alexey Sokolov reminded that there is a special fire protection regime in Kazan from December 20 to January 9. According to it, the pyrotechnic products are prohibited in certain territories.
In addition, the city police together with the forestry officers are involved in the operation “Yel” to prevent illegal logging and damage to the forest. Since December 20, Kazan law enforcement officers have already recorded dozens of administrative offenses and seized hundreds of coniferous trees.

Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, once again reminded that the work of all city and operational services should be established before the holidays. “Starting today, we are moving to an enhanced mode of operation. Our main task is to ensure the uninterrupted operation of all city and operational services during the public holidays. This week we need to complete a comprehensive survey of Christmas-tree towns for anti-terrorism protection”, concluded the Mayor.
The main Christmas tree in Kazan will open on December 27 at the Family Center “Kazan” on Sibgat Khakim Street. There will also be an ice town. In total, more than 60 holiday venues will be organized this year.
