The Mayor of Kazan: “Safe labor issues should be for every manager at number one"

(KZN.RU, August 25, Ekaterina Vislavskaya). Since the beginning of 2018, the Kazan Executive Committee received 26% fewer notifications of industrial injuries, said Artur Valiakhmetov, the chairman of the Economic Development Committee, at the meeting. Having heard the report on the first results of the work of the Coordinating Council for the Protection of Labor in Kazan in 2018, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, urged employers to solve the issue of labor protection in the first place.

In January-July of this year, the Kazan Executive Committee received 42 notifications of accidents. As a result of the investigation, 14 accidents were recognized as industrial, 11 of them with severe consequences and 3 with fatal consequences. In the current year, 3 fatalities and 3 severe accidents occurred in the construction industry, 5 serious industrial accidents and 3 in the service industry. Compared with the same period last year, the number of deaths decreased by one third. “Unfortunately, the level of industrial injuries in the construction industry remains at a high level, but nevertheless, every year we see a decrease in the number of accidents”, said Artur Valiakhmetov.

This year, the working group of the Coordinating Council for Labor Protection has resumed construction visits to be able to prevent accidents in the operation of construction equipment. 15 construction sites and 20 objects were inspected. Infringements of requirements of the legislation on a labor safety, creating a threat to a life and health of workers are revealed on 9 building objects. For today, all identified violations are eliminated on 5 construction sites.

“We keep an ear to the ground. If something happens at an enterprise, we keep it under control for three years. We ask everyone to pay attention to the fact that most of the tragic events occur as a result of a fall from the height”, said the chairman. Heads of organizations where accidents occurred are invited to the meetings of territorial commissions.

“We must fight violations of labor safety with the full power. There’s a personal tragedy behind every case of disability. All this could be avoided”, said Ilsur Metshin.

The Mayor of Kazan instructed to keep labor protection issues under special control and punish those who approach this work formally. He urged on to make Kazan the leader in the absence of injuries. “Safe labor issues should be a priority for each responsible manager along with caring for their employees, timely payment and social package”.
