June 6). Today Kazan holds solemn events dedicated to the celebration of the
Day of the Russian language and the 219th anniversary of the birth of the poet
Alexander Pushkin. It began with the laying of flowers at the monument to the
great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, near the Tatar State Opera and Ballet
Theater named after M. Jalil.

Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Councilor of
the RT, Asgat Safarov, the head of the Presidential Administration of the RT,
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Rimma Ratnikova, the deputy chairperson of
the State Council of the RT, Rafis Burganov, the minister of Education and
Science of the RT, Irada Ayupova, the minister of Culture of the RT, and others
took part in the ceremony. Then the traditional Pushkin's birthday poetic
meeting was held there. Representatives of the country's creative
intelligentsia, cultural figures, and students gathered for participation in
the event, reports the press service of the President of the RT.

Language Day is a Russian and international state holiday dedicated to the
Russian language. It is celebrated on June 6, the birthday of Alexander
Pushkin. The holiday was established in the Russian Federation in 2011 and in
the UN – in 2010.
