(KZN.RU, October 10, by Taisiya Basharkina). Two new schools to appear in Kazan in 2012 and 2013 must comply with accessibility regulations and provide inclusive education. This instruction was given today at a Business Monday by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
Note that inclusive education provides training for children with disabilities along with healthy ones.
«The IT-school to be launched in the Universiade Village in September next year will accept child prodigies, including the disabled," said Ilsur Metshin. Another school-- in Novo-Savinovskiy district – scheduled to open by September 2013, will also provide inclusive education. "These two schools will have accessible environment, and these requirements should be provided for at the design stage," said I. Metshin.
A total of 3,415 children with disabilities live in Kazan. The public schools are attended by 1,000 disabled students, including those with vision and hearing problems. 565 of them, who are wheelchair users, are educated at remedial schools or at home. As for preschools, there are 14 classes for children with disabilities. These include six classes for children with mental problems, while two kindergartens are implementing a program for children musculoskeletal system disorders.
"For us, careful attention to a disabled child both on the part of the healthy peers and of the teachers is essential. It is necessary to create the right conditions for the disabled so that they could feel like full-fledged members of society," concluded Ilsur Metshin.
