(KZN.RU, February 12, Ekaterina Vislavskaya). Kazan achieved good demographic indicators in 2017, despite a slight decline in the birth rate, said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, at today’s Business Monday. He believes that new measures to support families will help improve the situation.
The birth of 21888 children was registered in Kazan in 2017, which is 10.9% less than in 2016. According to Rimma Minnullina, the head of the Office of Civil Registration, the decrease is due to a sharp drop in the birth rate in the 90s of the XX century, because the children who were born at that time are today's parents. “The wave of births decreases slightly in a natural way, the demographic hole of the 90s gives results. Then the second children were rare”, said the Mayor.
There were more boys among newborns last year than girls: 11159 against 10729 babies. 45% of children are first born. Twins were born in 283 Kazan families, triplets – in 10 families. Amir, Matvey, Arthur, Kamil, Karim, Timur, Artem, Kirill, Emil, and Alexander remain popular male names. Yasmina, Sofia, Amina, Ameliya, Milana, Alisa, Eva, Polina, Arina, and Ralina are popular female ones. The list of the rarest names of Kazan included men's Bob-Bagration, Angel, Kubrat, Ostap, Yanislav, Davlat, Dobrynya, Nestor, Ermin, and Batyr, as well as women's Kiriyana, Milolika, Bernara, Anna-Avrora, Zlatoslava, Lukerya-Stefaniya, Malvina, and Selma. “Until May 1, 2017, the children were called Director, Alisa Princess, and other unusual names. Now it is not allowed to give names using abusive words, numbers, and symbols in words, posts, ranks after the introduction of amendments to the Family Code of the RF and the federal law “On Civil Status Acts”, said R. Minnullina.
Meanwhile, the number of registered deaths reached 13067, which is less than in 2016 by 2.2%. Kazan leads among the cities with a million population of the Volga Federal District by the ratio of births and deaths.
Last year, 11378 couples in Kazan registered their marriage, and this is 5% more than a year earlier. There are more people wishing to play a wedding in the Family Center “Kazan”, and many brides and grooms come from other regions of Russia: Bashkortostan, Mari El, Kirov and Ulyanovsk regions, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Astrakhan, Sochi, Magadan, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhnevartovsk, and Surgut.
3531interethnic marriages were concluded in Kazan, 853 alliances with citizens of other countries. They come from Australia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Great Britain, Germany, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Moldova, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Finland, France, Switzerland, and Estonia. “Most of the couples stayed in Kazan, some of them left. The number of marriages with foreign citizens is growing”, noted the head of the Kazan Office of Civil Registry.
“The figures speak for themselves. Undoubtedly, state incentives are being worked out: federal programs and personally presidential initiatives of Vladimir Putin. Today, a decision has been made to grant subsidies for the first child. Of course, this will affect the demographic situation. We hope that our birth rate will stay high”, concluded I. Metshin. He added that high rates were the result of work on all fronts, and demography will remain one of the priorities in the work of city authorities.
