(KZN.RU,
November 27). Kazan joined the Association for Improving the Health and Life
Quality of the Population “Healthy Cities, Districts and Villages”. The
decision was made on November 21 at the public hearings of the Association
“Family Health Savings Policy: Effective Municipal Practices” in the Public
Chamber of the RF in Moscow. According to the head of the World Health
Organization in Russia, Kazan can enter the European network “Healthy Cities”.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, reported this on the Business Monday today.
Damir
Fattakhov, the first deputy head of Executive Committee, presented Kazan's
application at the hearing. He noted that the status of “Healthy Kazan” is one
of the main priorities of the urban development and told the associations about
the most significant projects implemented in the Tatarstan’s capital: major
repairs of health facilities, including the primary link, the development of
sports infrastructure, the arrangement of public spaces, social projects.
Members of the organization unanimously supported the application of Kazan.
Melita
Vuinovich, the head of the World Health Organization in Russia, supported the
application of the city as well. According to Ilsur Metshin, M. Vuinovich
expressed the official opinion that Kazan has a good opportunity and should become
a member of the WHO project “Healthy Cities” and enter the European network of
cities. “It is noted that we have good prerequisites for creating a healthy
environment. This is the presence of high-tech medicine, a stable increase in
life expectancy, a modern sports infrastructure for mass sports events and
good, stable skills in organizing world-class sports competitions”, marked the
Mayor of Kazan. M. Vuinovich arrived in the capital of Tatarstan in April this
year and was able to personally assess the conditions.
I. Metshin
noted that Russia has only 12 quotas for cities. He marked that joining the
European network will open access to health-saving technologies, which are
already being applied in the member countries of the organization. “We are on a
par with the best cities, the best capitals and countries where these
health-saving technologies are used for a long time. This will allow us to
approach the solution of the tasks that we set for ourselves in Strategy-2030.
We said that we want to become a territory of health and longevity”, said Ilsur
Metshin.
Another 8
cities joined the Russian association along with Kazan. Thus, the number of
members of the organization has increased to 58, and the number of residents of
participating cities has exceeded 15 million people.
