November 15). Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, was re-elected the chairman of
the Association of Volga Region Cities. Such a decision was made at the
reporting and electing common meeting of the AVC members, which is held today
in the Kazan City Hall with the participation of Alexei Sukhov, the deputy
Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the RF in the Volga Federal
District.
Sergey
Panchin, the head of Ulyanovsk, nominated the Mayor of Kazan for consideration.
According to him, a huge work on the exchange of experience and best practices
was carried out under the leadership of Ilsur Metshin over three years. “We see
the pace that has been set today in the work of the Association of Volga Region
Cities. New important tasks are set before us, therefore, it cannot be
reduced”, said S. Panchin and suggested re-election of I. Metshin to the post
of the chairman of the AVC.
Alexey
Sukhov noted that Ilsur Metshin is able to defend the interests of the local
authority at all levels of government, including in the international stage.
“We support the proposal and believe that it is possible to elect Ilsur Metshin
as chairman of the Association of Volga Region Cities”, he said.
The
candidacy of Ilsur Metshin for the post of chairman of the Association of Volga
Region Cities was approved unanimously. Also, new deputy chairmen were elected
during the meeting, which were Alexey Ladykov, the head of Cheboksary, and
Sergey Panchin, the head of Ulyanovsk, and Vladimir Reprintsev was re-elected
as the executive director of the Association.
Ilsur
Metshin thanked the meeting for the once again rendered trust. “It is
responsible and honorable. It imposes responsibility for new tasks. I hope that
we will also actively work together for the benefit of our residents in the
next reporting period”, said the Mayor of Kazan.

The first
common meeting of the leaders of the seven largest cities of the Volga region
(Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Samara, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, and Cheboksary) was
held in Samara on October 27, 1998. The agreement was signed at the meeting on
the establishment of the Association, a new structure for the interaction of
municipalities. All member-cities of the Association are the centers of the
Russian Federation subjects. The main economic, energy, and information
resources, universities and research institutions in the Volga region are
concentrated in them.
Ilsur
Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, was elected the chairman of the Association of
Volga Region Cities in October 2014. According to the Charter of the AVC, the
chairman of the Association is elected by the general meeting for a term of
three years with the right of re-election.
