Ilsur Metshin: “The project “Blooming Kazan” is a good urban tradition”

The project “Blooming Kazan” started in the capital of Tatarstan, in which not indifferent residents and business representatives will contribute to the improvement and gardening of the city. Igor Kulyazhev, the deputy head of the Executive Committee and the chairman of the Committee for External Improvement, spoke in more detail about the implementation of the project, launched three years ago on the initiative of Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, at the staff meeting in the City Hall.

According to him, the project “Blooming Kazan” received a response from the citizens. “Last year, about 3 thousand participants were in the project. The total area of flower beds, arranged on the territory of the city, was 49 thousand square meters, and 13.5 thousand flowerpots and cache-pots were hung. 6.5 million flower seedlings were used to decorate the city. For comparison, 28 thousand square meters of flower beds were made and 1.2 thousand flowerpots and cache-pots hung in the year of the Universiade”, said Igor Kulzhyaev and added that original floral arrangements appear in the city, design solutions, landscape plastic, and new varieties of flowers are being actively used.

Like last year, applications for participation in the project “Blooming Kazan” are accepted on the website of the contest flowers.kzn.ru. The most active participants will be determined by the results of Internet voting. They will be awarded with letters of gratitude and prizes. The summing up and awarding the winners are planned for the autumn. Igor Kulyazhev reminded that 24 landscape companies took part in the competition last year (14 teams in 2015), and the festival itself was attended by about half a million people.

Also, the social project “Cultural Environment in Flower Kazan” will continue in the summer. Residents will be able to attend master classes, poetry readings, meetings with poets and writers, trainings on creating art objects, and live musical concerts.

“The project “Blooming Kazan” is a good urban tradition. We started it with shy steps, thought whether the population, business, owners of buildings and offices would support it or not. Earlier, the owner of the office or building seemed to be a “black sheep” when he decorated the entrance and the sills with flowers. Today, the owners who do not do it seem strange. June is the time for planting and dropping flowers. We must shake hands and say warm words of gratitude to those who are involved in this, note the best”, said Ilsur Metshin.

The Mayor of Kazan urged business representatives to take an active part in the action. “Flowers adorn Kazan, it can be easily seen. This is noticed both by the citizens of Kazan and by the guests of our city. As a result, the city and its residents win”, noted the Mayor.
