with a minute of silence”, said Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan.

Gilmanova, a native of Kazan, a graduate of the Kazan Ballet School, who lived
in Moscow, was among the dead. Vladislav Golikov, a singer-tenor, was another
native of Kazan, who died in that plane.

“Tu-154’, belonging to the Ministry of Defense of Russia, disappeared from
radar at about 5 am on December 25 in a few minutes after taking off from the
airport of Sochi. 92 people were on board: the crew, soldiers, artists of the
song and dance ensemble named after Alexandrov, journalists. The plane was
heading to Latakia (Syria), where the artists of ensemble were planning to
congratulate the Russian military on the New Year. Later, the body fragments of
the airliner were discovered in the Black Sea about half kilometers from the coast
of Sochi.
