(KZN.RU, November 25). Ilsur
Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan met with Fatma Samura, the general secretary of the
International Football Federation (FIFA), today in the capital's City Hall. The
meeting was held within the framework of the seminar of participating in the Confederations
Cup teams. Alexey Sorokin, the general director of the Organizing Committee “Russia
2018”, and Azat Kadyrov, the general director of the Directorate of sports and
social projects, also participated in the meeting.
The first day of the seminar
of the participating in the tournament teams took place today. Meetings for
functional areas such as accreditation, security and logistics, will be held
during the second day of the seminar.
The FIFA Confederations Cup
2017 will take place from June 17 to July 2, 2017. The tournament will be held
in Russia for the first time in history. World champion Germany, the host
nation team - Russia, as well as the champions all over the world: Australia,
Chile, Mexico, Portugal and New Zealand will take part in it. Africa's
representative will be determined in February 2017. The tournament will be held
in 4 cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan will host games. 4 games of
the tournament, including a match of the Russian national team, will be held in
the capital of Tatarstan at the stadium “Kazan Arena”. In 2018, the FIFA World
Cup will be held in 11 Russian cities. Kazan will take six tournament games (4
games in the group stage, 2 meetings in the playoffs).
Fatma Samura was born on September
9, 1962 in Senegal, she studied at the University in Lyon, France. She is the
chief representative of Senegal to the United Nations (UN), also temporarily
acting as the representative of Nigeria to the United Nations.
She began an international
career in 1996, occupying a position of responsibility for the UN World Food
Program in one of the African countries. November 1, 2007, Pan Ki-Mun, the UN general
secretary, with the consent of John Holmes, deputy general secretary for
Humanitarian Affairs, had appointed Fatma Samurai as the deputy Humanitarian
Coordinator in eastern Chad.
Fatma Samura was selected for the post of general
secretary of the FIFA on May 13, 2016. She is the first woman to hold this
post.
