(KZN.RU, November 25). Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of
Kazan, took part in a plenary session for the representatives of national
associations-participants in the Confederations Cup. Fatma Samura, the general
secretary of the International Football Federation (FIFA), Alexey Sorokin, the
general secretary of the Organizing Committee “Russia-2018”, and others also
attended the meeting. The event was part of the first day of the participating
teams’ seminar in the Kazan City Hall.
I. Metshin greeted the representatives of the national
associations in Kazan, the sports capital of Russia. He said that Kazan has
received this prestigious status due to the high level of holding a number of
international events and a rich infrastructure for the development of both
professional and mass sport. He also presented the main floor of the
Confederations Cup matches: the stadium “Kazan Arena” and training area.
Meetings on functional areas such as accreditation,
security and logistics, will be held during the second day of the seminar. The
draw for the Confederations Cup will be held at the Kazan Tennis Academy on
November 26. The ceremony, which will determine the composition of the groups
and the “Tournament of Champions” match schedule, will be held on this day.
Zvonimir Boban, the deputy general secretary of the FIFA for the football
issues, and Colin Smith, the director of the department for the FIFA
competitions and events, will conduct it. Sergei Semak, the five-time champion
of Russia, and Elena Isinbayeva, the double Olympic champion, will help them.
