The decision to ensure
the status of a specially protected natural area for the coastal zone of the
Kazanka River on 80 hectares along Gavrilov Street in Kazan was tough.
Previously, the residential development was planned in this area. Even 10 years
ago, one of the important criteria for the development of any city was housing
construction, construction of social facilities and roads. Therefore, the
previous General Plan provided for the full development of all these 80
hectares for residential development. In the updated General Plan, only 20
hectares along the road were allocated for construction, and 60 hectares were
given the status of a recreational zone.
However, life changes quickly, we try to respond to
the demands of residents. In addition, the pandemic changed our usual lifestyle.
We saw that residents need public spaces, parks and squares even more than we
thought.
Therefore, it
was decided to develop a 74- ha park with playgrounds, health trails and
protected areas of a valuable ecosystem. The residential complex under construction will remain the only
exception. We proposed to explore another area to the investors, who planned to
launch residential construction on this site.
I do not promise that an improved public space will open
here tomorrow, but we begin our work and we will definitely attract
ecologists and biologists to it.
