(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 2, by Adelya Galiyeva). On June 6, the first interactive book fair "Book-Fest 2014” will open the summer street festival, conceived as part of the Year of Culture. The head of the Kazan Culture Administration Aygul Gornysheva reported on the “Book-Fest 2014” program at today’s Business Monday meeting.
"This festival was conceived together with our creative intelligentsia at a City Hall meeting. The ‘Book-Fest’ is part of a large exciting project—the summer street festival,” noted Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin concerning the background of the book fair.
"Kazan is enriching itself with such festivals. In preparation for the Universiade, we heard accusations of a bias in favor of sports. This is understandable. When we were preparing for such a major international event, the main focus was on construction sites and sport venues. The Year of Culture helps us strike a balance and offer residents an event to not only strengthen the body, but also the spirit,” said the Mayor of Kazan.
As reported by Aygul Gornysheva, the festival is timed for the Day of the Native Language and the 215th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin’s birth. The "Book-Fest” will be held at three sites: in the Museum of Fine Arts park and Lyadskoi Garden, as well as at the Vasily Aksenov Museum.
The mayor of Kazan emphasized that the festival will host events for all tastes and ages and invited all city residents to attend the “Book-Fest."
