I.Metshin: "The environment is among Kazan's top three concerns"
(KZN.RU, February 12, by Alisa Rozanova) The implementation of the projects to improve the environment of the capital of Tatarstan has a positive impact on the socio-economic situation of the city. This opinion was expressed by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin at a board meeting of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Tatarstan.
" Kazan is in 61st spot among Russia's top100 cities with the worst air pollution. Although this indicator is not the worst, it is alarming enough. Kazan must "breathe easier"; we need to strengthen the lungs of the capital, which can be achieved with new green areas," said the mayor.
To this end, Kazan started a long-term project "Green Record", thanks to which almost 50 thousand trees and 20 thousand shrubs were planted in1,224 city areas in a single season. Ilsur Metshin noted that next spring, the improvement of areas attractive to the guests and participants of the Universiade will make a big contribution to the greening of the capital. According to the mayor, the most significant contribution to the city environment will be the completion of the first phase of improvement of the right and left banks of the Kazanka and of the Lake Kaban waterfront.
