Competitive Kazan Mayor grant for students of architecture launched
(KZN.RU, February 10, by Taisiya Basharkina) Contestant registration for the annual Mayor of Kazan architectural grant started today. This was announced by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin during his visit to Kazan State Architectural University.
The theme of this year’s competition is saving and restoring Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda (Old Tatar Settlement). "The preservation and development of the historic center is one of our main objectives. We want you to take part in this project," Ilsur Metshin said to the students.
The competition will be conducted in several stages. Five winners will be determined in the final round. The authors of the best projects will undertgo training at the best architectural studios in England, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. "Europe has done much to preserve historic cities. The best students should study the international experience and apply it when they return home,” said the mayor. The entries will be displayed at an annual exhibition, and the awards ceremony will take place at Kazan City Hall in May 2012.
