(KZN.RU, February 9, by Renat Shirmanov) The renovation of the bus fleet was launched in Kazan: 30 new MAZ buses arrived, and another 120 are expected in the spring. Today, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin was shown the new vehicles.
According to the carriers, city buses cover 10-12 thousand kilometers a month, which amounts to more than 500,000 kilometers over five years. It is only natural that under such conditions the buses are subjected to considerable wear. The fleet update should bring passenger service up to the European standards.
The city authorities impose certain requirements on carriers in their selection of equipment. As explained by the chairman of the Committee on Urban Transportation Aydar Abdulhakov, the buses should be low floor or semi-low floor and should be equipped with engines of at least the Euro-3 standard. It should be noted that MAZ buses have been used in Kazan for five years and during this period have proved up to the mark. "These buses have Mercedes-Benz engines, and not one of them needed engine repairs during this time," said Aydar Abdulhakov.
Ilsur Metshin was shown two bus models - the larger MAZ-103 with a capacity of 100 passangers and the MAZ-206 with a capacity of 72 passengers, which will be used on less congested routes.
Ilsur Metshin drew attention to the fact that the new vehicles meet the requirements of accessibility: special areas for wheelchair users and parents with baby carriages are set aside. Special needs passengers can easily get into the bus thanks to the ramp lowered by the driver.
Inside the bus, there is an information display panel in addition to audio announcements. Two more panels are installed on the outside: one at the front, the other - on the right side.
By the end of this year, Kazan carriers intend to buy at least 255 new buses. A special scheme has been developed for this purpose: the use of credits from "Ak Bars Bank" and grace leasing offered by "Sberbank" and by the "Leasing-trade" company.
