(KZN.RU, November 4). Today, the opening ceremony of the monument to the faithful saints Knyaz Peter and Fevronia took place in Kazan on Chistopolskaya Street. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, Asgat Safarov, the head of the Presidential Administration of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, attended the solemn event.
The decision to create a monument to St. Peter and Fevronia in Kazan was made by Rustam Minnikhanov in June 2015. Monuments to these saints have already been erected in Murom, Yaroslavl, Sochi, Arkhangelsk, Blagoveshchensk, etc. The initiative to create the monument belongs to the Russian National-Cultural Association.
The competition was announced to create a sketch of the monument. 11 participants presented 22 options. The winner was the proposal of the sculptor Peter Dobaev.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that family values are the most important. “We believe that the family is the basis of any state, and a strong family is a strong country. And, of course, we will do everything we can to promote family values in modern society”, said the President of the RT.
It was noted during the ceremony that the traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church are to sanctify the monuments in honor of the Orthodox saints. The rite of consecration was accomplished by Feofan, the Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan, reports the press service of the President of the RT.
