(KZN.RU, July 26, by Ekaterina Andreeva). The tragedy involving the boat Bulgaria was discussed at a "Business Monday" meeting in the Executive Committee of Kazan. Mayor Ilsur Metshin brought his condolences to the families of the victims. The officials in charge reported on what had been done so far about the accident.
Compensation payments from the federal and republican budgets to the families of the 70 Kazan residents who died in the Bulgaria accident have been made in full. The 38 injured also received payments. Three more compensation payments are expected to be made after the investigation.
It will be recalled that the double-deck m.v. Bulgaria, built in 1955 in Czechoslovakia, sank on July 10 during a storm in the Kuibyshev reservoir in Tatarstan, three kilometers from the coast. The tourist vessel was sailing from the town of Bolgar to Kazan. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, 201 passengers were on board at the time of the disaster, 79 of whom were rescued.
According to the Republic’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, 122 victims’ bodies were recovered, including those of 28 children, 72 women and 22 men. Of the 119 registered deaths, 70 are those of Kazan residents.
Medical assistance is being provided to the injured and to the bereaved families. There is a hot phone line for emergency cases, staffed by experienced psychologists.
