(KZN.RU, June 22, by Ekaterina Andreeva), A charitable football match was held at Kazan’s Olympus sports arena within the framework of all-Russian charity drive "In the name of goodness!" In Kazan, The "Rosich - Starco" team and the Kazan City Hall team played for the fifth time. The result of the friendly match, just like last year, was an amicable 3-3 draw.
The aim of the drive is targeted assistance to seriously ill children who need expensive treatment, assistance to orphans and promotion of sports and healthy lifestyles.
"We are pleased to welcome our friends in the sports capital of Russia,” said the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin. It could be said that the mayor was able to predict the outcome of the match: “I'm sure that His Majesty football will win." One of the members of the Kazan team, head coach of the Rubin football club Kurban Berdiyev also said, "May God reward all the participants of the drive."
"In the name of goodness!” activities are in their seventh consecutive year. The drive first took place June 12, 2005. In 2006, the event got the All-Russian status. During the past six years, more than 100 charitable matches have been played in the cities of Central Russia, the Volga region, the Urals, Siberia and the Krasnodar Territory. From 2005 to 2011, 1,275 vouchers totaling over 159 million rubles to cover the cost of children’s treatment have been awarded.
Following the match, vouchers for the treatment of sick children were given out. Seventy-two Kazan families were given assistance totaling 2.5 million rubles.
