(City Kazan
KZN.RU, September 3). The Jewish community, representatives of the Jewish
national-cultural autonomy in Tatarstan are active part of society, they participate
in the life of Kazan and the republic as a whole. This was announced today at a
ceremony in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Kazan synagogue by the Acting
President of RT Rustam Minnikhanov. The celebration was also attended by the
Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
Celebrating
of the 100th anniversary of the synagogue was held today in the open air on the
street Profsoyuznaya in Kazan. Celebration was attended by the Chief Rabbi of
Russia Berl Lazar, president of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia
Alexander Boroda, the Chief Rabbi of Tatarstan Yitzhak Gorelik, chairman of the
Jewish National and Cultural Autonomy of RT Michael Skoblionok and others.
Berl Lazar,
Rustam Minnikhanov and other distinguished guests toured the new prayer hall of
the Kazan synagogue. Addressing the participants and guests of the event,
Rustam Minnikhanov said that it is very pleasant to see the Kazan synagogue updated
and renovated, and congratulated them on the holiday.
Yitzhak
Gorelik called today's event a great day. "20 years ago we returned the
synagogue, which was built by our ancestors. On the 100th anniversary of the
synagogue we returned its real form, now it adorns the entire city, "-
said Yitzhak Gorelik.
In his
turn, Berl Lazar said that it’s good to see so many people at the festival. He
noted that the republic pays great attention to interethnic and interfaith
relations. "Kazan synagogue looks great today, probably even better than
100 years ago," - shared Berl Lazar.
A concert was
held in honor of the celebration of anniversary of the synagogue, during it creative
teams - participants of the IV International Festival of Jewish music performed
for the guests of the event.

Officially
Kazan Jewish community was established March 24, 1897. March 2, 1915 Jewish
house of worship built at the expense of Jews of Kazan was opened and served
for religious community until May 1929, when it was taken away by the new
authorities. The building of the synagogue was given to the Ministry of
Education, the House of Educators was located there.
In 2015
celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Kazan synagogue are conducted
with the full support of the leadership of the Republic of Tatarstan.
