(KZN.RU, May 12) President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took a walking tour of Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda (Old-Tatar Settlement) to see the progress of rehabilitation of historic buildings. He was accompanied by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
The restoration of the main building of the Apanayev estate on Sufyan street, built in the late 18th century and subsequently long abandoned, is now almost complete.
While visiting the Apanaevskaya Mosque, Rustam Minnikhanov was presented a project of recreating Kunche Street. This short pedestrian street running along the mosque will connect Nasyri and Marjani streets and should be rebuilt in the spirit of the historic Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda.
At the end of his walk, the Tatarstan president inspected the historic quarter between Tatarstan, Nasyri, Marjani and Zaini Sultan streets. Here, the investors are not only recreating individual buildings, but are also decorating the Kushayev, Kazakov and Sabitov estate courtyards to best convey the spirit of the settlement. The buildings will house cafes, restaurants and workshops, where visitors will be able to try their hand at traditional crafts.
