I.Metshin: "By 2018, another 11 major road upgrades will be made in Kazan"
(KZN.RU, February 8, by Renat Shirmanov) Preparations for the 2013 Universiade have drastically reduced the time to complete the 10-year effort to upgrade the road network. Following the World University Games, the work will be continued, and 11 major road improvements will be accomplished. This was announced by Mayor Ilsur Metshin at an extended session of Tatarstan's Ministry of Transport and Roads.
Ilsur Metshin recalled that the Kazan Executive Committee had requested St. Petersburg Design Institute experts to develop a program of upgrading the road network and public transportation in the capital of Tatarstan through 2013 with projections up to 2020. As part of this program, over 38 km of 17 roads have been repaired, and 11 interchanges and 28 pedestrian crossings have been built.
Ilsur Metshin also said that after the completion of the 2013 Universiade, efforts will focus on the preparation of the road network for the 2018 World Cup. The city administration and the Ministry of Transport and Roads have proposed 11 road upgrades.
