(KZN.RU, February 9, by Taisiya Basharkina) Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin met with the head of the underwater research team of the Russian Geographical Society, Dmitry Schiller, who, along with nine other Dynamo sports club divers, dived into Yakut Lake Labynkyr, setting a world record.
Ilsur Metshin expressed his admiration for the courage of the Tatarstan divers. He awarded a diploma to the team head and asked him to become a Universiade ambassador.
On February 1, Tatarstan's Dynamo divers plunged into the waters of the coldest part of the world – near the village of Oymyakon in Sakha-Yakutia – in the coldest season. The divers dedicated their feat to the 90th Anniversary of the All-Russian Spots Club Dynamo, which is marked this year. Ten members were involved in the project "The unique exploratory dive at the Pole of Cold". Their names and achievements will be entered upon official confirmation in the Guinness Book of Records. Samples of soil and water, which the team members were able to collect from the lake bottom, were given to Maxim Amosov North-Eastern Federal University.
"I think this is a good opportunity to invite you to become a Universiade ambassador. Your team did more than just a sport," said Ilsur Metshin.
