The official opening of the new fencing center took place today in Kazan. Over 100 athletes will now have the opportunity to train there. The event was attended by Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan and the Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, as well as Ilgar Mamedov, the President of the Russian Fencing Federation.
The center is located on Korolenko Street. The venue has two multi-purpose sports halls, a gym, comfortable locker rooms with showers and restrooms, and a medical room. The capacity of the center is more than 100 people.
The honored guests had the opportunity to talk with Olympic champions Naila Gilyazova and Marta Martyanova, who have glorified the Kazan fencing school.
In his speech, Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated the participants on the upcoming Day of the Republic and noted that Tatarstan has a long history of fencing. “Today we are opening the modern Fencing Center, which has all conditions for the training process and holding the competitions. Our glorious fencing traditions should be continued by young athletes. I wish you best of luck!”, – said the Rais of Tatarstan.
Over 1,000 people currently practice fencing in Tatarstan and 25 coaches are working with athletes. The national team of Russia consists of 11 members from the republic.
