Kazan architectural objects may be nominated for Aga Khan Award
(KZN.RU, October 9, by Ekaterina Andreyeva) Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin met with director of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, Farrokh Derakhshani (Switzerland), at City Hall.
Mr. Derakhshani told Ilsur Metshin about the activities of the Aga Khan Foundation. He noted that the foundation is a unique organization and is active in three areas, two of which are Historic Cities Support Program and the Education and Culture Program. In addition, the Foundation has established the world's largest prize for architecture. The award is part of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture activities.
The main purpose of Mr. Derakhshani's visit to Kazan is to explore the local architecture potential for its possible nomination for the award.
The Aga Khan Award for Architecture is given every three years to projects that set new high standards of architecture, urban planning, landscaping and protection of cultural heritage.
