(KZN.RU, March 15, Ekaterina Andreeva and Renat Shirmanov). Currently, the capital of Tatarstan is developing two major bike trails - from the Universiade Village to the city center and from the new stadium to the river port. This was reported at a meeting of the Executive Committee of Kazan. It was attended by Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin and by head of the Executive Committee Alexei Pesoshin.
The project is being developed by the Tatdorproekt institute. Chief engineer Maxim Mironov said that the primary concern of the institute is the construction of a bike trail from the Universiade Village to the city center. He also spoke about other prospective bicycle routes, one of which can connect the Universiade Village to the new football stadium. The routes that should appear on the currently projected Kazanka embankments were also discussed at the meeting.
Thus, a bicycle path will connect the waterfront near the new football stadium and the river port. The route will be built on both banks of the Kazanka. From the stadium, cyclists will be able to ride along the waterfront to the Millennium Bridge, cross to the right bank and proceed to the river port.
This route envisages the construction of a pedestrian bridge, which will connect the right and left bank. It will be suspended under the Millennium Bridge and will meet all accessible environment requirements. The bridge will also have bicycle paths.
The final version of the first cycle routes will be presented at the next City Hall meeting. Currently, provision of bicycle parking spaces and bicycle rental are under consideration.
