(KZN.RU, December 8, by Renat Shirmanov). Three subway stations under construction are due to open May 2013. Following this, it will be decided in which direction the Kazan subway will be expanded. It is intended to build two lines that will connect Privolzhsky district with Kirovsky district and the city center with Sovietsky district.
Currently, there are seven subway stations in Kazan, and three more are under construction. Their launch will bring the number of subway passengers to 200 thousand per day. Today, the subway is used daily by more than 80 thousand citizens of Kazan.
"The first Kazan subway line carries the greatest number of passengers. With three new stations, travel time from “Prospekt Pobedy” to "Zavosdkaya" will be about 27 minutes," said Deputy Head of "Kazmetrostroy" Venyamin Terzimanov.
“We are all waiting for the completion of the first line and for the continuation of the construction work. While we’re planning to commission the three stations, we’re expected to build new ones. This will bring about a marked improvement in city transit," said Ilsur Metshin.
According to the preliminary draft, Kazan may get two additional metro lines. One will connect Privolzhsky and Kirovsky districts, passing under Chistopolskaya street and ProspektYamasheva; the other line may connect downtown and the Azino neighborhood. "We’ll be able to talk about it in greater detail after the completion of the subway stations in 2013," concluded the mayor of Kazan.
