(KZN.RU, May 8, Alina Berezhnaya). The updated Walk of Fame
opened today in the residential area Yudino of the Kirovsky district of Kazan
on the eve of Victory Day. A monument to the fallen heroes of the Great
Patriotic War was restored on the territory of the memorial complex, footpaths,
benches were renewed and trees were planted. Rustam Minnikhanov, the President
of the RT, Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, Anatoly Lesun, the head of the
Gorky Railway, took part in the opening ceremony.
Opening the festive event, Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated
the residents of Yudino on Victory Day. He noted that during the war the
natives of Tatarstan made an invaluable contribution to the victory, both on
the battlefield and in the rear. “700 thousand Tatarstan residents went to the
front, only half of them returned. Tatarstan supplied more than 600 types of
military products to the front, every sixth aircraft was produced in the
republic. More than 100 thousand tons of gunpowder delivered to the front by
the Kazan Powder Plant, our villages provided the front with food. Everyone
forged the Victory with his labor on the battlefield and at work. We must
remember our heroes”, said Rustam Minnikhanov. He added that Yudino is changing
more and more each time. “Yudino’s 100th anniversary gave a powerful impetus to
the development of the settlement. Now a lot of work is being done to restore
the sports area. The Palace of Culture will be restored, the Ice Palace is
already open, and this alley will be another place where citizens can rest. I
wish Yudino to continue to prosper, we still have plans for the development of
the settlement”, said R. Minnikhanov.
Ilsur Metshin, the Mayor of Kazan, marked the news of the
beginning of the war came first came in Yudino. “Yudinsky railwaymen were the
first to know about the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. The first signal
was received not to send cars to the western border of our country. I want to
congratulate all the veterans, thank them for their great feat and peaceful sky
over our heads”, said I. Metshin. He marked that today Yudino is actively
developing and changing. “We have always dreamed that the standard of living
corresponded to the capital, not only in the center of Kazan, but also in urban
settlements. Yudino is a proof of that”, added the Mayor of Kazan.
The decision to reconstruct the historically valuable public
space was made by Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the RT, during a meeting
with residents of the residential community and employees of the Kazan
Territorial Department of the Gorky Railway in March last year.
During the reconstruction, the foundation of the monument
was strengthened, the concrete platforms were repaired, the covering of natural
stone was replaced, and the arch, stele, metal structures, sculptural
compositions and information boards were repaired.
In general, landscaping was more than 9 thousand square
meters. In addition to its landscaping, the pavement of the alley and the
playground was replaced, side stones and small architectural forms were
installed. The external networks were also repaired, the outdoor lighting and
the automatic irrigation systems were replaced.
“Since 1949, Yudino has changed noticeably. There was
nothing here, except for railway transport and enterprises. Today Yudino is one
of the best districts of Kazan. I wish the younger generation to take care of
what we got”, said Israils Segal, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War.
The opening of the Alley was completed by laying flowers at
the Eternal Flame, which was brought from the Grave of the Unknown Soldier near
the Kremlin wall.
“A year ago there were ruins here, we could not even dream
that we would have such a wonderful alley. We have no words, only emotions.
Tomorrow we will have a big holiday in the settlement, all residents will come
to the Eternal Flame to honor the memory of the war heroes”, Nadezhda
Elistratova, a local resident, shared her emotions.
